Cats likely to be without Stokes

Geelong have suffered yet another injury blow, with midfielder Mathew Stokes unlikely to take on North Melbourne.

Geelong have suffered another blow ahead of their round four AFL clash with North Melbourne, with Mathew Stokes unlikely to take the field.

Stokes injured his Achilles tendon in the round three battle with the Gold Coast Suns and team physio Mark Young told the club website Stokes is facing an uphill battle for the North Melbourne encounter.

"He's feeling better. Scans have shown no significant damage," Young said.

"However he is unlikely to play this week."

The Cats didn't get good news on tough defender Tom Lonergan either.

Lonergan is still being monitored after being heavily concussed in the match with Gold Coast and a decision on him won't come till later in the week.

Stokes joins Jimmy Bartel (knee 6-8 weeks) and defender Andrew Mackie (quad 1-3 weeks) as experienced stars sidelined for the Cats.
