Geelong face tough decisions on some star veterans at the end of the season, but skipper Joel Selwood says that won't distract the Cats from their AFL finals push.
The futures of a host of premiership players - including Jimmy Bartel, Corey Enright, Steve Johnson, James Kelly and Andrew Mackie - are set to be decided as the club plots the regeneration of its list.
While some of those veterans could potentially have just seven games left in their decorated careers, Selwood said the focus remained on playing finals for the ninth year running.
"I'd like them all to play on. I've been involved with these players for a long time and they're still hungry," Selwood said on Friday.
"But it does come to a stage where the footy club needs to move on and take a course. Whatever happens will happen and we'll back the guys involved in that decision making.
"(But those conversations) go on all the time. It's nothing to worry about. What they're worried about this week is playing and doing a good job for the footy club."
Geelong are in unfamiliar territory in 11th spot heading into round 17 and face a stern test from seventh-placed Greater Western Sydney in Canberra - a ground foreign to many of coach Chris Scott's men.
Selwood will return from a one-week suspension after he accepted the match review panel's assessment of his "chicken wing" tackle on North Melbourne's Sam Wright.
The skipper looked on from the coaches' box as the Cats ground out a dour eight-point win over the Western Bulldogs and admitted his side would need a more-rounded performance to defeat the Giants.
"They've obviously got great run and great youth in their side," he said.
"When they get the ball with the confidence to run with it they're extremely hard to stop.
"They've got some gun players across all lines. We're looking to shut them down early and it's going to take a huge team effort from us."
