Cattle company buys new NT properties

Australian Agricultural Company has paid $8 million for two cattle properties close to its new abattoir near Darwin.

Beef producer Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) is set to buy the Pell Airstrip and Tortilla cattle properties near Darwin for about $8 million.

The properties will be used to sort and hold cattle before they are sent for slaughter, live export or to the company's other nearby cattle stations.

"It will act as a key hub for the company's activities in northern Australia," chief executive Jason Strong said.

The properties total 5,473 hectares, and are located 50 kilometres south of the company's new $91 million abattoir at Livingstone, 50 kilometres south of Darwin.

The abattoir is expected to start operating in September.
