Cavalry arrives for depleted AFL Cats

Geelong coach Chris Scott has cleared Daniel Menzel (soreness) and Steven Motlop (groin) to play in their top-four AFL clash with Richmond on Saturday.

The cavalry has arrived for besieged AFL premiership hopefuls Geelong, with Daniel Menzel and Steven Motlop cleared to play in Saturday's blockbuster against Richmond.

An ankle injury to skipper Joel Selwood and untimely suspensions to Mitch Duncan and Tom Hawkins makes the Cats underdogs against the Tigers but coach Chris Scott said his returning pair had timed their return to fitness well.

"It's impossible to replace some of the guys we've got going out (but) we'll bring back some quality. It's obviously a challenge but it's a great opportunity as well," Scott said on Thursday.
