Britain's champion sprinter Mark Cavendish has won stage five of the Tour de France.

Britain's champion sprinter Mark Cavendish has won stage five of the Tour de France.

Cavendish's win in a sprint finish into Marseille was the 24th Tour de France stage win of his career.

The Omega Pharma-Quickstep rider crossed the line ahead of Sky's Edvald Boasson-Hagen, of Norway, and Cannondale's Peter Sagan, of Slovakia.

Australia's Simon Gerrans retained the yellow jersey for overall leader, but his Orica GreenEDGE team could not manage a third successive stage win.

Murray Silby has spoken to S-B-S cycling commentator David McKenzie who told him Cavendish's ability to get to the line first is second to none.
