Suncorp's chief risk and legal officer Anna Lenahan has resigned to become Commonwealth Bank's group general counsel.

Ms Lenahan - who has been with the insurer since March 2011 - will leave in September and a few months later fill the vacancy left by David Cohen's appointment as chief risk officer.

"While disappointing, I can understand why Anna has been attracted to this opportunity," Suncorp chief executive Michael Cameron said on Tuesday.
