Commonwealth Bank chief financial officer David Craig will step down in June after 11 years in the role, and be replaced by Rob Jesudason.

CBA on Friday said Mr Jesudason will step up from his current role as group executive for international financial services after Mr Craig retires on June 30.

Mr Craig has been chief financial officer since joining Australia's largest bank in 2006, and chief executive Ian Narev said he would be missed greatly.

"Due to his strategic breadth, technical skills, and values, he is held in the highest esteem inside and outside CBA," Mr Narev said in a statement.

"He has made a lasting contribution to CBA, particularly through his leadership of the finance and treasury functions during the global financial crisis and subsequent regulatory change."

Mr Jesudason has been with the lender since 2011 and has led the Hong Kong-based international financial services division since 2014.

Mr Narev said CBA chose the former head of Credit Suisse's head of global emerging markets following a global search.

"He has worked in and alongside financial institutions across the world, and has an acute sense of the rapidly moving economic, regulatory and competitive landscape," Mr Narev said.
