CBA says it doesn't tolerate fraud

Staff at Australia's biggest lender, Commonwealth Bank, have been accused of being complicit in an elaborate fraud worth $76 million.

The Commonwealth Bank says it doesn't tolerate illegal dealings with its employees as it emerged two mobile lenders have been accused of being complicit in a major fraud.

Two men, who are not CBA employees, will reportedly face court next year for allegedly masterminding a $76 million Ponzi scheme.

Fairfax Media reported at least two Commonwealth Bank lenders received secret commissions from the men for their role in the alleged fraud, which was ignored by CBA management.

But a bank spokesperson said: "CBA has zero tolerance to bribery, corruption and facilitation payments across the business and will continue to co-operate with the police and the legal process as this complicated issue unfolds in the courts."

The charged pair are accused of using forged documents to borrow millions of dollars for several property developments that never got off the ground.
