Census can be filled out online

Next year's census will be the biggest online event in Australia's history.

Australians asked to go digital for 2016 census

* Australia's 17th census will be held on August 9, 2016

* It will have 61 questions, the same questions as the 2011 census

* About 24 million people will be asked to participate

* The census was first available to complete online in 2006

* Ten per cent of people choose to fill it out online in 2006
