Centre escapee jailed before deportation

A 21-year-old man has been jailed ahead of his deportation back to Sudan after he violently escaped from an immigration detention centre east of Perth.

Angok Acuil was charged with escaping immigration detention, causing harm to a Commonwealth official and using a weapon while detained at the Yongah Hill facility near Northam.

Acuil pleaded guilty in the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, when he was sentenced to six months behind bars.
