The construction union has called for the trade unions royal commission to be shut down over revelations Commissioner Dyson Heydon was listed as a speaker at a Liberal Party fundraiser.

CFMEU secretary Dave Noonan said news of Commissioner Heydon's engagement at the fundraiser - an engagement he has since withdrawn from - was evidence of the "partisan nature of the commission"

"The conflict of interest cannot be any clearer. Accepting an invitation to speak at a Liberal Party fundraiser is about as partisan as you can get," Mr Noonan said in a statement.
