Challenge turns black for faves on Block

Brad married his long-time partner Lara on Wednesday's The Block but it was straight back to work for the Blockhead, with a room challenge to complete.

There were wedding bells on Wednesday night's episode of The Block but the celebrations didn't last for groom Brad.

A day after tying the knot with 2012 teammate Lara, he joined the show's other contestants back on the set for a bedroom challenge - although not of the honeymoon kind.

The show opened with scenes of the groom Brad and his long-time girlfriend Lara at their wedding with family and friends.

The Block's hosts Shelley Craft and Scott Cam, as well as Brad's current teammate Dale, were also invited.

But the next day "the Blockheads", as the teams of renovators are affectionately known, were put back to work.

Wednesday night was challenge night; "the fans" - newbie renovating teams Chantelle and Steve working with Kyal and Kara went up against "the faves", twins Alisa and Lysandra and groom Brad and his mate Dale.

The two teams challenge was to transform old hotel rooms.

There was only one catch - each team had to choose two artworks each out of a selection and use them in their rooms.

The fans, just as they did in their very first challenge together, were at odds with each other's style from the very beginning, arguing over which artworks to use and then the colour of the bed frame.

"We know from the last challenge, our styles are completely different," Kara said.

"It's going to be a long 24 hours."

The faves however, couldn't agree either. They originally agreed to give their run-down hotel room a Hollywood Regency feel but the idea fell through.

Twins Alisa and Lysandra and mates Dale and Brad spent most of their time deciding whether to paint the brick wall in their room or cover it with wallpaper.

The end result was a room painted completely black that failed to impress judge Neale Whitaker.

The positioning of the artworks in the faves' room was too high, according to Whitaker.

"What were you thinking?" he said.

The fans' room, in which white walls contrasted with black walls, received a better response from Whitaker.

"It's cool and contemporary ... pretty glamorous," he said.

The fans ultimately took home the winning prize - the artworks they chose for the hotel room challenge, worth a total of $10,000.

*The next episode of The Block airs on Thursday at 7.30pm.
