Chance drug haul was good luck, say police

The discovery of an estimated $13 million worth of illegal drugs after a car crash in Sydney's south was "pleasantly surprising", police say.

The driver of a green sedan that collided with two parked cars is still being sought after he fled the scene in Bardwell Park on Friday night.

Police found more than 160kg of white powder - believed to be pseudoephedrine - inside the car.

Inspector Gary Charlesworth described the find as "pleasantly surprising".

"This sort of lucky happenstance rarely occurs in policing," he told reporters.

"It's usually hard work and this sort of luck is good for us. It's good for the general public."

Police have been interviewing witnesses to the collision in a bid to identify the driver.

The power is undergoing analysis.
