Charges dropped against Ausdrill boss

Charges against the boss of mining contractor Ausdrill relating to alleged fraud have been dropped.

Charges against the boss of mining contractor Ausdrill have been dropped.

Ausdrill said legal action in the West Australian Supreme court against chief executive Ron Sayers had been discontinued.

Mr Sayers faced charges of conspiring to defraud the Commonwealth through trusts connected to another mining company, Barminco.

A trial ended in November 2013 with a hung jury.

"The matter was mentioned in the Supreme Court today and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions formally discontinued the charge," Ausdrill said in a statement.

"The proceedings are now at an end.

"The Ausdrill board and management have remained fully supportive of Mr Sayers throughout the process and are delighted that the charge has been discontinued."

Ausdrill in August announced the re-appointment of Mr Sayers, with no change made to his $1.9 million remuneration package, which includes a $817,025 base salary.
