The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are the latest members of the Royal Family to announce they will attend events marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Charles and Camilla will travel to Normandy in June for two days to honour those who took part in the historic campaign and meet veterans of the fighting.

Buckingham Palace has already announced that the Queen will visit the region, to pay tribute to those Allied forces who fought and died on the beaches, during a state visit to France.

Other heads of state are expected to attend the extensive commemorations marking the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, including Prime Minister Tony Abbott and President Barack Obama, but they are likely to be the last major events given the age of many of the veterans.

On the day of the D-Day anniversary the royal couple will attend the Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance at Bayeux Cathedral and attend the Service of Remembrance at Bayeux War Graves Cemetery.

They will join guests at the Ceremony of Remembrance, at Colleville-Montgomery-Plage, to commemorate the Allied landings and another similar ceremony at the Juno Beach Centre, Courseulles-sur-Mer, to mark Canada's role in the campaign 70 years ago.
