The transgender son of Cher and Sonny Bono, Chaz Bono, will speak at a special Mardi Gras event in Sydney.
The transgender and gay rights activist was named Chastity at birth and the little girl appeared alongside her parents in the popular sonny and Cher show in the 1970s.
She came out as a lesbian in the 1990s and became a vocal campaigner for equality and social justice.
Bono began living as a man in 2009 and has shared his story through books and documentaries, which seek to remove stigma and prejudice about transgender people.
He will appear in a Queer Thinking event titled Gender Trailblazers at the Seymour Centre on February 26.
Bono will be joined at the event by Colonel Cate McGregor, who has continued a career in the Australian Army after declaring her intention to live as a woman.
