Families returning to their homes in NSW after the school holidays are being urged to check traffic updates to avoid travelling through flood-affected areas.
The SES is urging families to check livetraffic.com before setting out in case of road closures, with school resuming this week.
"You need to plan your journey. Make sure if you do come across any flooding, to turn around and come another way," SES spokesman Phil Campbell told AAP.
"It's much better that they check before they come home and make sure they come home safely."
The central west of NSW has been hit hard by floodwaters, causing tens of millions of dollars worth of damage and wiping out unknown hectares of crops.
The Bureau of Meteorology expects the Lachlan River at Condobolin to peak at 7.2m on Wednesday, the highest level since 1990.
More than 1000 people have been evacuated from around Forbes and Condobolin, and many may not be able to return home for a week or more.
