Chiefs sign hooker, halfback for 2015

Hooker Quentin MacDonald will play for a third Super Rugby team next year after signing for the Chiefs.

Tasman hooker Quentin MacDonald is returning to New Zealand from Ireland and will play Super Rugby for the Chiefs next year.

The Chiefs announced on Monday they have signed MacDonald for their 2015 season, along with Waikato captain and former New Zealand under-20 halfback Brad Weber.

New Zealand Maori forward MacDonald, 25, had a short stint on loan with Irish province Munster but said in a statement he was keen to return to New Zealand and improve his game at the Chiefs.

He played three seasons at the Crusaders and one at the Blues but failed to establish a first-choice role at both teams.

Weber, 23, was named in the Chiefs wider training squad this year but has played seven games, mostly as a reserve, to cover injuries to first-choice halfbacks Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Augustine Pulu.
