The United Nations has announced the imminent release of more than 3,000 child soldiers in South Sudan.

The UN says the children, aged between 11 and 17, were recruited by the South Sudan Democratic Army Cobra Faction and some had been fighting for almost four years.

UNICEF says 280 children have been freed so far, with further releases expected to take place over the next month.

Anthony Nolan is an Australian who works for UNICEF in South Sudan and supporting the demobilisation of the children.

He told Santilla Chingaipe that it's the largest release of children in the country by militant groups.
