Childcare package due by year end: govt

Legislation for the government's childcare package will be introduced to parliament by the end of 2015, Scott Morrison has pledged.

The federal government's $3.5 billion childcare package will be introduced to parliament by the end of the year.

But Social Services Minister Scott Morrison is continuing his "lengthy negotiations" with Senate crossbenchers on an unpopular proposal to fund the plan with cuts to family tax benefit payments.

The minister told reporters in Perth on Thursday he was listening carefully to crossbench concerns and hoped to resolve the matter soon.
