The BBC has broadcast images of the devastating aftermath of a bomb attack on a school in Syria, which reportedly killed more than 10 students and left scores more with serious burns.

Video footage shot after the incendiary bomb was dropped shows victims writhing in pain, suffering serious burns. It was not clear exactly when the incident took place.

BBC reporter Ian Pannell visited the school (warning graphic images) and spoke with a man who filmed the scenes of chaos that ensued after the attack.

The school’s headmaster, who did not want to be identified, described the incident as "the most horrific thing."

"The worst thing in life is watching someone die right in front of you, and you can’t do anything," he said.

"There were dead people; people burning and people running away. But where to? Where would they go? it’s not safe anywhere."

Witnesses reported seeing a fighter jet flying overhead numerous times, allegedly looking for targets, the BBC reported.

A British doctor who worked at the scene said the victims' burns indicated the bomb could have contained a substance like napalm, however the exact nature of the explosive is not yet clear.
