China tackling widening wealth divide

Chinese authorities are building millions of low cost homes and raising wages to tackle the nation's widening wealth gap, CNN reports.

China is struggling with a widening wealth gap as it grapples with its communist and capitalist ambitions.

The National People's Congress in Beijing has made the divide between China's poor and rich a top priority for 2012.

The authorities are building millions of low cost homes, raising wages and offering greater subsidies to the nation's poorest.

But in a country which has the world's second largest number of billionaires, while over a 100 million still live on $1 a day, many say there is much more that needs to be done.
