With a population greater than Australia, the city of Shanghai is trying to find ways on how to manage their growth and wealth.

ANZ China chief economist says, "Every year according to our calculation china's new GDP generated will be more than one trillion the size of Indonesia's economy."

A crucial part of China's economy is their demand for Australian commodities, with most of our exports prodominately minerals.

However, it is not only China's economy which is boosting, Australian trade and investment could be boosted by recent announcements by China's leaders.

The thriving city of Chongqing has become a symbol of China's flourishing economy.

It's the world's fastest growing urban centre, the estimate being that every day, 1300 people turn up, to live and work.

A shrine to capitalism, Chongqing's main square advertises a world of western luxuries.

China's also relaxing its one child policy, widely seen as a response to a rapidly ageing population.

Associate Professor at University of International Business and Economics, John Gong sees a time when the policy will be completely scrapped.

"It would be a catastrophe if we don't remove that policy we don't to enter into a situation like Japan where the population growth is declining rapidly."

Some believe the recent reforms are partly designed to respond to growing social discontent.

Arguing that as long as China continues to grow, it will lift millions out of poverty.
