Chinese toddler Wang Yue remains critically injured in hospital with some sensation in her lower body but little brain activity, CNN reports.

The two-year-old is still in critical condition after falling victim to a horrific hit-and-run accident that has sparked global outrage.

Despite this her mother remains hopeful.

"Wang Yue won't disappoint everyone. I know my girl, she's strong," Qu Feifei told CNN.

The toddler was wandering in a busy alley near her father's hardware store before she was run over by two vehicles on Thursday.

Security cameras captured the incident which showed passers-by ignoring Wang Yue for 10 minutes before a woman spotted the little girl and moved her.

"I didn't think of anything at the time," Chen Xianmei told local reporters.

"I just wanted to save the girl."
