Injury plagued power hitter Chris Lynn can see an opportunity to cement a place in Australia's shorter-form cricket teams, but won't be putting pressure on himself after an unexpected recall.
Lynn on Wednesday was named in the Australian one-day squad for the five-match series against England starting on January 14 at the MCG.
Plagued by shoulder issues over a number of seasons, the 27-year-old Queenslander has played one ODI and five T20 internationals.
He gave a timely reminder of his match-winning capabilities by smashing 63 off 46 balls in Brisbane Heat's BBL victory over Melbounre Stars at the MCG on Tuesday.
Since last May, Lynn has faced just 58 balls in top flight cricket and wasn't expecting an international recall so soon.
"I kind of wrote my chances of playing for Australia off this season, just due to the shoulder recon, so to get the call up again is very exciting," Lynn said.
"I didn't hit the ball that great last night, but obviously the selectors have seen something and hopefully I can just get out there and continue that form and in the Australian colours and play with a smile on my face."
Lynn believes that attitude is a key to his success.
"I know there's a good opportunity there to really cement a spot and there's an opportunity there for me to be a long-term player in the green and gold," Lynn said.
"I know that, but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself because if I'm not having fun, I don't play my best cricket."
While a highly regarded shorter forms player, Lynn averages 43 in first-class cricket.
He hasn't given up hope of playing Test cricket, though he acknowledges there's a big question mark over whether his body can handle the rigours of longer-form cricket.
"I haven't given up that dream of wearing the baggy green, but I'm just trying to be real," he said.
