A Middle Eastern construction company in which CIMIC Group has a significant stake has been chosen to build several towers in Dubai.

A CIMIC joint venture in the Middle East has been awarded a $A224 million contract to build several towers in Dubai.

HLG Contracting, in which the ASX-listed CIMIC owns a 45 per cent stake, will start building the five 16-storey towers near the Dubai World Trade Centre this month.

They expect to have the residential towers finished by June 2019, in time to host visitors for the Expo 2020 Dubai event, which kicks off in October 2020.

Three of the the buildings will be joined through a three-storey podium, as will the other two.

CIMIC Group shares were up 33 cents, or 0.9 per cent, to $38.53 at 1230 AEST on Monday.
