Mitch Clark will play his first AFL match in nearly two years when he runs out for new club Geelong against Gold Coast on Sunday.

Cats coach Chris Scott said on Monday that the ruck-forward would likely play little more than half of the NAB Challenge clash against the Suns in Townsville.

Clark retired midway through last season at his second club Melbourne after being diagnosed with clinical depression.

Clark's time with the Demons was also cruelled by injury, including a serious foot complaint and several soft-tissue problems.

His most recent AFL game was in round four, 2013.

After undergoing treatment for depression, the 27-year-old Clark decided to resume his career and was picked up by the Cats in the 2014 national draft.

Serious injuries limited him to just 15 games in his stint with the Demons, having begun his career with the Brisbane Lions.

Skipper Joel Selwood, Steve Johnson, Hamish McIntosh and Jared Rivers are among the big-name Cats who will miss the game against the Suns.
