Clean athletes to appeal ban say Russians

The Russian Olympic chief says athletes not guilty of doping will be appealing their Olympic bans.

Clean Russian track and field athletes will appeal their Olympic ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, said Russian Olympic chief Aleksander Zhukov on Tuesday, adding that their ban was also legally "indefensible".

Zhukov was speaking at the IOC summit examining further steps to secure only clean athletes compete at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in less than two months' time.

Russia's athletics team cannot compete in Rio after the IAAF last week upheld a suspension imposed last year.
