Clean up aims to make Parramatta River swimmable again

In Australia's fastest growing area, Western Sydney, one group is working to make the Parramatta River swimmable again.

Those behind the "Our Living River" initiative believe that by 2025 the Parramatta River could become a place for people to swim and relax.

It cites examples of similar projects in some of the world's largest cities, including London, Berlin and New York.

The University of Western Sydney's Dr Ian Wright is an ecologist who's been working with "Our Living River", and is one of the authors of a report on the effects of urban development on the Parramatta River catchment.

Dr Wright is speaking to Sunil Awasthi.
