A US Marine has had a narrow escape after he was shot at by a sniper - only for the bullet to deflect off his kevlar helmet.

The video, shot in Afghanistan in 2013, shows three US Marines walking single file through a building as they investigate the source of gunfire.

As they approach an entranceway and scan the area in front of them, the middle soldier reacts as he is suddenly shot in the head. Incredibly, the bullet bounces harmlessly off his helmet and he is left unscathed.

The soldier behind him, who captured the event on his camera helmet, notifies his teammate he's been shot.

"Dude, you got shot."

"I did get shot."

"I saw it hit your Kevlar."

The three quickly retreat to the back of the building to assess the situation. They inspect the helmet and are stunned that the soldier survived.

"You lucky son of a bitch," someone is heard saying.

Afghanistan veteran Sam Arnold uploaded the video to YouTube last month and wrote that the "attack was recorded on an helmet camera during a joint helicopter raid in the Now Zad district, Helmand Province."

The footage has since been watched more than 200,000 times.
