Not on track or not met

* Closing the life expectancy gap by 2031. No progress between 2006 and 2013. "The current rate of progress will have to gather considerable pace if the target is to be met," the report states.

* Did not achieve 95 per cent 4-year-old enrolment in early childhood education in remote communities by 2013. However, 85 per cent of children were enrolled in 2013.

* No overall improvement in halving the gap in child reading, writing and numeracy by 2018. About 70 per cent of indigenous students achieved Year 5 national minimum standards. Significant declines in some states across some year levels. Northern Territory has the lowest proportion of children achieving minimum standards.

* No progress in halving the gap in employment outcomes by 2018. Proportion of indigenous people employed fell from 53.8 per cent in 2008 to 47.5 per cent in 2012-13.

On track

* Halving the mortality rate gap for children under five by 2018. Decline in indigenous child deaths slowed in 2013 but goal still achievable.

* Halving the gap for Year 12 attainment for 20 to 24-year-olds by 2020. Attainment increased from 45.5 per cent in 2008 to 58.5 per cent in 2012-13.

Don't know yet

* Prime Minister Tony Abbott in 2014 introduced a new target for school attendance by 2018. Data shows schools achieving 90 per cent attendance in 2014 varies from 48 per cent of metropolitan schools to 14 per cent in very remote areas. Progress will be outlined in future reports.
