Coach hails Tigers' leaders after AFL win

Richmond's on-field leaders were influential in the Tigers' 46-point win over Melbourne at the MCG.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has praised the Tigers' 46-point win over Melbourne as their most complete effort of the season after they stormed to the top of the AFL ladder.

The Demons trailed by just six points in the third quarter of their Anzac Day eve clash at the MCG.

But the Tigers slammed home seven of the last nine goals of the game to score a 15.12 (102) to 8.8 (56) win in front of 77,071 fans.

"I think so (but) it was a tough old game ... it was a bit of an arm wrestle there for a long period of time," Hardwick replied when asked if it was his side's best all-round performance this season.

"High pressure, high contest and I thought we were probably on the ropes early in the first and third quarters, so I was really pleased with how (we) stood up to that challenge.

"Then we started to grind away and got it on our terms towards the end."

The Tigers were clearly under pressure at times, but leaders Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt and Alex Rance made helped drive important adjustments on the field.

"Our players generally - from Trent down - just figure it out," Hardwick said.

"We (do) give them some parameters to play with.

"(But) I'm very lucky to have those guys playing for me."

Dustin Martin was quiet early but warmed into the contest to finish with 26 possessions, including 10 clearances.

Kane Lambert (29 disposals), Shane Edwards (26) and Bachar Houli (26) were also important, while Jack Higgins led the way in attack with three goals in just his second AFL appearance.

Nick Vlastuin (calf), Josh Caddy (hamstring) and Jack Graham (suspension) are all expected to be available for Sunday's clash against Collingwood.

"I wouldn't mind one night where I could have a rest and not worry about selection," Hardwick quipped.

"We've got some really tough decisions to make for the Collingwood encounter, but we're in a great position and I'd rather have that than no troops on the horizon."
