The federal Coalition says a Green Army of 15,000 young Australians will be recruited to rejuvenate bushland and waterways around the country if it wins the election.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says the plan would give thousands of young people the chance to work outdoors and gain experience in making their communities better places.

 

Mr Abbott says his army would be the largest standing environmental workforce in Australia's history.
