The coalition has picked female achievement as the theme for this year's NAIDOC week, which celebrates indigenous Australian culture.
Under the theme "Because of her, we can", more than 500 organisations have received $1.4 million in grants to support events in every state and territory, which kick off on Sunday.
"NAIDOC week is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women," Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion said in a statement.
"(They) are strong role models and leaders in their homes, communities and society more broadly."
A football cup, historical recordings, art workshops, cultural showcases and cook offs are just some of the grant-funded events to be held from July 8 to 15.
"These grants support communities across the country to hold their own events," Mr Scullion said.
"(They are) spreading understanding and pride of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, the oldest continuing culture in the world."
The week culminates with the National NAIDOC awards ceremony held in Sydney on July 13.
The government is investing $41 in education programs for women and girls and more than $140 million in domestic violence prevention as part of its $5 billion Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
