Coalition slips in polls

Support for the coalition has dropped by nearly three points since the election, according to the latest Newspoll.

The honeymoon period appears to be over for Tony Abbott, with the latest poll showing a drop in support for the prime minister and his government.

Support for the coalition has fallen to 43 per cent, nearly three points below the election result of 45.6 per cent, according to the latest Newspoll, conducted over the weekend and reported in The Australian.

Labor, meanwhile, lifted its election day result of 33.3 per cent to 35 per cent.

Personal support for Mr Abbott has also slipped, with his margin for preferred prime minister sinking from 46 per cent to 44 per cent, while Bill Shorten's has risen from 30 per cent to 33 per cent.

After recording his highest net satisfaction rating last month, the latest results show Mr Abbott's satisfaction rating has sunk from 45 per cent to 42 per cent, and his dissatisfaction rating has risen from 38 per cent to 42 per cent - giving him a net rating of zero compared with 13 in October.
