Coca-Cola's profit slips as US soda sales

For the three months ending December 31, Coca-Cola earned $US1.71 billion ($A1.90 billion), or 38 cents per share.

Coca-Cola says its profit fell in the fourth quarter as it sold less soft drink in North America.

The maker of Sprite, Powerade and Vitaminwater water says global sales volume rose 1 per cent, helped by stronger overseas results.

In North America, it said soft drink volume fell 3 per cent while noncarbonated drinks rose 4 per cent. PepsiCo said last week its soft drink volume fell in the "mid-single digits".

Not including one-time items, it earned 46 cents per share, in line with Wall Street expectations.

A year ago, the company earned $US1.87 billion, or 41 cents per share.

Revenue fell to $US11.04 billion, short of the $11.31 billion Wall Street expected.
