Collingwood confirm interest in Clark

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley would love to have Mitch Clark at his AFL club, while Heritier Lumumba is likely to leave the Magpies.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has confirmed his AFL club is keen to tempt Mitch Clark out of retirement.

Clark was diagnosed with clinical depression and announced in March he was retiring, effective immediately, to concentrate on his health.

The 26-year-old now wants to return to the AFL, Buckley confirming it is unlikely Clark will remain at the Melbourne Demons.

"Mitch has been really clear in his communication to us that he doesn't want to leave Melbourne in the lurch, but his advice is that he needs a fresh environment," Buckley told ABC on Saturday.

"A fresh start, to give himself the best chance to take the next step in his life."

Buckley said Clark was "absolutely committed" to restarting his career.

"We'd love to have him at the football club," Buckley said.

"But there's still plenty to play out," he added.

Meanwhile, Buckley confirmed the club and Heritier Lumumba were both keen to part ways in trade period.
