Collingwood's Dane Swan will aim to prove his fitness on the track this week, while the Magpies are confident tagger Brent Macaffer will be fit to play on the weekend.

The Magpies flew back into the AFL's top eight on Sunday with victory over fifth-placed Port Adelaide. Collingwood's next challenge is against West Coast in Perth on Sunday as their two key midfielders face fitness doubts.

Swan has been out for two matches with a foot injury and tagger Macaffer was hobbling on Monday after rolling his ankle during the first quarter of the Magpies' MCG clash with Port.

Brownlow Medallist Swan told Nine News he hoped to play against West Coast.

"We'll train this week and see how we go," he said.

Macaffer was praised by coach Nathan Buckley for playing out the game and pulling off a key shut-down role on Travis Boak.

"He's a little bit sore today but is moving okay," Collingwood football director Rodney Eade told the club's website on Monday.

"There'll be tests later in the week but we're reasonably confident he'll play and be available."

Ex-Giant Taylor Adams has been ruled out for four to six weeks with a torn ligament in his finger.

The 20-year-old has averaged 19 disposals in 12 games for his new club. Eade says Taylor will have surgery.

Collingwood's official injury list says Macaffer, Paul Seedsman (adductor) and Alan Toovey (back) face fitness tests while Swan and 2013 No.10 draft pick Nathan Freeman are likely to miss another one or two weeks.

Freeman is yet to make his AFL debut and has battled hamstring problems.
