Collingwood have extended Alan Toovey's contract until the end of the 2016 AFL season.

Collingwood have extended premiership player Alan Toovey's contract until the end of the 2016 AFL season.

Toovey suffered a season-ending knee injury on Anzac Day in the MCG clash with Essendon.

The 26-year-old has played 114 games and made his debut in 2007. A member of Collingwood's 2010 premiership side, Toovey was named best clubman last season.

Collingwood had started the 2013 season with five players on the free-agency list. However the re-signing of Toovey and this week's retirement of Ben Johnson leaves skipper Nick Maxwell, Alan Didak and injured midfield star Dale Thomas yet to be signed, the afl.com.au website reported on Wednesday.
