Emergency services will use a state-of-the-art nerve centre to co-ordinate their safety and security operations at next year's Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
The Joint Emergency Services Co-ordination Centre (JESCC) was unveiled on Thursday before its use for this weekend's Gold Coast 600 Supercars event.
The centre enables staff from police, fire and ambulance services to work alongside council and Games organising committee staff under one roof.
"The key to this is to prevent incidents from happening," said Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford, who leads the Queensland Police Service Games operation.
"But once something happens a prompt response, in a well co-ordinated manner, is what we're trying to achieve through this centre."

Modelled on similar centres used at other major events across the globe, the centre offers high-speed connectivity within the QPS and across other emergency service agencies.
Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation head of security Danny Baade said the centre would be a vital part of ensuring the Games were a safe event.
"It's a great opportunity for us to be able to connect our activities at the GOLDOC operations centre for the Games and the police operation centres as well as all the other emergency operation centres," Mr Baade said.
"It gives us that opportunity to make those connections early and test them."
Queensland Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said the $4 million price tag was money well spent.
"It's not just for the Games. It's for the entire Gold Coast moving forward," Mr Ryan said.
