Jealousy is not just a human emotion – a study has found that when owners play with a dog-like object their real canine friends get jealous.
Researchers from the University of California found that in a study of 33 dogs and owners, 78% of dogs snapped, pushed or physically intervened when their owner played with dog-like object, as opposed to 22% with toys that did not resemble dogs.
The study used dogs of varying breeds. Researchers now suspect there is an evolutionary aspect to jealousy, used in order to protect an important social relationship.
