Commonwealth Bank tops list as Australia's most valuable brand

Australian banks have prospered because of the stability of Australia's economy and the proximity to the fast growing markets of Asia ranking them among the world's best.

The Commonwealth Bank and ANZ have been ranked as Australia's most valuable brands in a global survey.

The Millward Brown Top 100 BrandZ annual report says Australian banks have prospered because of the stability of Australia's economy and the proximity to the fast growing markets of Asia.

ANZ's brand value increase 15 per cent as the company grew by acquisition having bought the operations of the Royal Bank of Scotland in six Asian countries.

Rising house prices and a robust mortgage business, with one million home loan customers, have helped the CBA to see an 18 per cent lift in brand value change.

Overall, the CBA was the highest ranked Australian business on the global list at number 44, behind Subway and Mercedes-Benz.

Research agency Millward Brown conducted more than 150,000 interviews to build the report which revealed technology brands as most valuable.

Google knocked off Apple from the top position which it held for the last three years, as it built its brand by investing in new technologies like Google Glass.

The fastest growing category was Apparel with brands growing by 29 per cent.
