Shortly before 10:30am on Sunday August 5, a man walked into a temple at Oak Creek, Wisconsin and opened fire on worshippers, killing six and injuring three.
The gunman was later shot dead by police.
Kanwardeep Singh Kaleka is the nephew of S Satnam Singh Kaleka, the president of the Gurudwara Temple, who died trying to save worshippers from the armed gunman.
He spoke to SBS soon after the dead bodies of the victims had been released by the Police and said a funeral service and wake will be held today, Friday August 10.

Remembering his uncle, Kanwardeep told SBS Punbjabi Radio, "He used to work so hard for the community.
"Everyone knew that if they approached him for help, their job would be done. And even in his last moments, he was only fighting for members of the sangat." he said.
Mr Kanwardeep also knew many of the other deceased.
"Parkash Singh, (39) was such a wonderful man", he said.
"His wife and two children had recently migrated from India and joined him in the month of June.
"His little daughter is devastated because her father was shot right in front of her eyes. No child should ever witness something so horrific," he said.
He says relatives of the victims are holding candle light vigils every night, which are being attended by all Americans - black or white, Muslim or Christian, community members and politicians.
"The message we are trying put across to everyone is, 'get rid of hatred and ignorance. Let us find brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers in other people," he said.
"If we think like that, incidents like this will never happen'"
The three people injured in the attack, including the US policeman, are all recovering well.
Mr Kanwardeep says he met them today and the policeman even gave him 'a thumbs up'.
