Fijian veterans of British nuclear tests in the Pacific in the 1950s are to receive compensation.
Fiji's President Frank Bainimarama has announced a payment of around $6,000 for each Fijian soldier exposed to nuclear radiation.
The Fijians were stationed on Christmas Island, now part of Kiribati, during the tests in 1957 and 1958.
Professor Wadan Narsey is visiting adjunct professor at the Cairns Institute at Queensland's James Cook University.
He told Sacha Payne, the Fijian government wants to be seen to be righting a great injustice on the part of the Fijian servicemen affected, including Frank Bainimarama's own father.
