Con men are posing as tradies to swindle Victorian bushfire victims.

There have been several reported scams involving travelling tradies in the Riddells Creek area, where at least one home was lost in the state's recent bushfires.

Consumer Affairs Heidi Victoria says bushfire victims need to be careful of cash-only offers and tradies who won't provide references or a business address.

"Conmen are unscrupulous and will take any opportunity, even in bushfire-affected areas," she said.

She said scam artists often offer repairs at a cheap rate and pressure bushfire victims into paying the full amount in cash.

The work is then not completed or is substandard.

Victoria's fires have burned 350,000 hectares so far this year.
