Infamous conman Peter Foster is once again behind bars, this time at the Brisbane Correctional Centre in Wacol, after his arrest in NSW.

Foster, 52, was transferred to Brisbane on Thursday and has begun an 18-month prison sentence, which was handed down one year ago.

He had been on the run for nearly a year after failing to attend court on a contempt charge.

Foster was taken into custody on Tuesday after a dramatic arrest in bushes near Byron Bay.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting police and resisting arrest and was taken to the Southport watch house.

The jail term relates to Foster's part in the sale of the bogus SensaSlim oral weight loss spray, which swindled about $6 million from 90 investors.
