Consumer confidence bounces a little

ANZ/Roy Morgan's weekly consumer confidence index rose 0.9 per cent, but it is still below where it was six months ago following four weeks of declines.

Consumer confidence has bounced a little as worries about local political instability fades, but it is still quite weak.

ANZ/Roy Morgan's weekly consumer confidence index rose 0.9 per cent but, after four months of decline, it is still below where it was six months ago.

"Consumer confidence remains lacklustre despite the interest rate reduction from the Reserve Bank earlier in the month and lower petrol prices over the summer," ANZ chief economist Warren Hogan said.
