The debacle over Kieran Foran's Parramatta deal is another black eye for a code that seems to produce contract dramas like no other, says Craig Bellamy.
The Melbourne coach was speaking after it was revealed Manly star Foran could turn his back on his Parramatta contract.
Foran has expressed disappointment after the Eels attempted to rework the $4.8 million contract he signed with the club three months ago to join them from next NRL season.
It comes just three weeks after his Sea Eagles teammate Daly Cherry-Evans backflipped on his Gold Coast deal just before the round 13 deadline.
Bellamy said it was a bad look for the game.
"The game suffers a black eye when this happens, it just seems we're a bunch of amateurs," Bellamy said on Wednesday.
We just seem to do these things to keep in the news or something ... you never seem to hear of it happening with other sports."
Bellamy wasn't across the intricacies of the Foran contract issue but didn't blame the New Zealand Test playmaker.
"It's disappointing that it's the main news topic again after the Cherry-Evans stuff," he said.
"That's no criticism of the player because they've got to do the best they can for themselves.
"It just seems every time a big name player's contract comes up there's some drama with it.
"I don't know the ins and outs of it and I don't really want to know but hopefully they will sort it out and everyone will be happy."
He wasn't sure how it could be avoided, but said the NRL needed to act.
"I don't know if we've got too many rules and regulations or not enough rules and regulations.
"It's not good for our game and hopefully it won't happen again, but it probably will."
