Conveyor belt fault delays parcel delivery

A mechanical fault on a Toll Group conveyor belt is causing parcel delivery delays, but is expected to return to normal in days.

Those who bagged a bargain online in the post-Christmas sales may have to wait a little longer for delivery thanks to a broken conveyor belt.

Courier company Toll Group is sorting parcels by hand while repairs are made to a conveyor belt which experienced a mechanical issue at its Port Melbourne depot.

"We are sorting parcels manually to minimise the disruption to our customers while the system is being repaired and expect deliveries to resume as normal over the next 48 hours," Toll said in a statement.

"This is an isolated incident and we apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused."

Through the holiday trading period, Toll delivered more than one billion kilograms in freight a week.
