Jobs may be cut from the trucking company involved in a fatal fuel tanker crash in Sydney in 2013, after it lost a major contract with Shell.

Cootes Transport will soon stop supplying Shell service stations in five states after the fuel company selected Toll Holdings as its new transport contractor.

Cootes has also been told by BP that it has not been shortlisted for its next NSW transportation contract, Cootes' parent company McAleese said on Thursday.

Two people were killed when a Cootes tanker overturned and exploded in Mona Vale on Sydney's northern beaches in October.

In addition to the Shell and BP contract losses, Cootes has decided to terminate its contract with 7-Eleven from the end of June, due to poor profitability.

The three contracts combined deliver annual revenue of about $92.5 million to Cootes, and make up 60 per cent of its fuel transport revenues.

McAleese said it plans to restructure Cootes, and "will explore opportunities for impacted staff to transition to other employment", including positions within the company.
